The MATRx process is the highest level of Muscle Activation Techniques®.
Using a total-body approach to addressing systemic issues, MATRx takes the MAT® skillset and process and supercharges it to create longer-lasting and more noticeable results.
Both Julie and Charlie Cates learned MATRx directly from Greg Roskopf, the developer of MAT®, studying in person under him for four years to complete the training. Additionally, since 2017 they have taken part in yearly MATRx continuing education courses with Greg to maintain their certification status.
Consider MATRx like a software update for your entire neuromuscular system. Just like when you update the operating system on your phone, every app and function on your phone works better. Similarly, when you “update” your neuromuscular system with MATRx, the effects are much wider than your muscles contracting better.
Some of the documented effects of MATRx outside of improving the strength and function of the muscles are:
How Do You Know If MATRx Is Right For You?
Clients often wonder if they should be doing MATRx or traditional MAT®. Generally speaking, the MATRx process will be a great option for clients who have progressed through traditional MAT® to the point that many of the “local symptoms” have calmed down.
For example, if you are having a shoulder issue, we will likely be doing traditional MAT® until the specific issue is resolved. At that point, we may transition to boosting up your entire system using MATRx.
Conversely, if you feel like your body overall is drained, tight, achy, or in need of a neuromuscular reboot, we may progress into the MATRx process faster, once you have demonstrated that your body can tolerate doing the various tests of the MATRx process without issue.
Two areas of the body that we may go into very quickly with the MATRx process are the feet and the hands. MATRx makes working through these two areas extremely fast and is highly effective at addressing strength and function issues with the muscles of the feet and hands.
What Is Different About MATRx?
From the client’s perspective, you may not notice much of a difference in what you are doing during a session of traditional MAT® versus MATRx.
The biggest difference you may notice is that both your right side and your left side will be worked on during the session. Asides from that, the in-session client experience will be relatively similar to that of traditional MAT®.
Why Should You Do MATRx?
One thing that makes that MATRx process incredibly powerful is that it adds stressors into the session. By consistently stressing out the muscles and then reworking on them, their strength and function get built up to a much higher level than with traditional MAT®.
For you, this translates into greater output and strength from your body on a daily basis, greater joint mobility, and results that last longer between sessions.
Additionally, because the MATRx process can serve as a total-body neuromuscular reboot, it can have strong effect on many systemic issues that a client may be experiencing, including chronic muscle tightness, increased feelings of stress (increased sympathetic nervous system activity), and chronic feelings of pain or fatigue.
At the end of the day, both traditional MAT® and MATRx are highly effective options for improving the strength and function of your muscles. Based on what your body is experiencing symptomatically, the MATRx process may be a great option to boost up the strength and function of your entire neuromuscular system.
