Your car’s dashboard is one of the most useful ways to know what is going on with your car.

Need to know how much gas you have? Check the dashboard.

Want to know how fast you are going? Check the dashboard.

Interested in seeing how many miles you’ve put on your car? Check the dashboard.

The dashboard lets you know the current status of your car as well as warns of you future potential issues–change your oil, check your engine, inflate your tires, etc.

This way, while you are busy using your car, you don’t have to worry about exactly what is happening with it because anything that needs your attention will be brought up on the dashboard.

Wouldn’t it be nice if your body had a dashboard to tell you what is happening with it and what future issues may be coming your way?

While lab tests and fitness wearables can give you lots of data about your body, there is one thing that can tell you a lot about how your body is functioning and whether you are at a higher or lower risk for injury.

The good news is this thing doesn’t require any bloodwork or devices to let you know what is going on. And, it is always with you at all times of day and night, giving you information about how your body is doing.

What is this thing?

It’s your muscles.

Your muscles can give you tremendous amounts of information about your body regarding how stressed it is, how ready you are for exercise, and where you may be more likely to get injured.

While many people often think of muscles in terms of aesthetics and performance–i.e. how you look and how you play–your muscles can serve a far more valuable purpose than that.

Unfortunately, most people try to “dim down” the settings on this “dashboard” because how the muscles give you information is not always in the most pleasant way.

Feelings of muscle tightness, achiness, soreness, and pain are all signals from your muscles that something is going on that you need to take care of. Furthermore, feelings of engagement, connection, strength, and flexibility are all signals that your body is ready to go.

So how can you interpret these signals and what can you do about them?

The easiest and most accurate way I have seen to interpret these signals is through the Muscle Activation Techniques® process.

Muscle Activation Techniques®, or MAT®, is a systematic process of identifying where in your body you have inhibited muscles, or muscles that aren’t working properly, and then addressing those muscles directly to strengthen them and get them functioning better.

If you are noticing the signals from your muscles of tightness, achiness, soreness, or pain, those are all indications that you have muscle inhibition somewhere in your body. Using MAT®, you can have those areas of muscle inhibition identified and strengthened, reducing the signals of tightness, pain, etc.

The MAT® process can also help you identify where within your body you are most at risk for injuries due to overuse, compensations, or muscles that are asleep on the job. Then, you can get those muscles woken up and functioning better to reduce your chances of injury.
