As the summer season kicks off, we know that schedules can get all out of whack.
One of the first things that gets cut out of most people’s days when they start to get overloaded is their workout.
But not you! You have the tools and knowledge to stay consistent with your workouts this week and throughout the entire holiday season.
Here’s how you are going to do it:
1. Decide–Decide that you are going to workout. Don’t leave it as a choice or option, but tell yourself, “I am going to workout today.” Not if there’s time. Not if everything goes as planned. But just simply state that working out is going to happen for you.
Once that decision has been made, go to Step 2.
2. Plan–Plan what you are going to do for your workout before it is time for you to do it. This is where a lot of people get tripped up. They have the intention to workout, but because they don’t have a plan that is simple to carry out, they get bogged down by the details (what exercises, when, where, how long, etc…) and end up not working out at all.
Don’t make this complicated. This plan should be constructed in under 15 seconds.
Yes, 15 seconds. Not minutes. Seconds.
Think, “I am going to do a Targeted Tempo Training workout in the Exercise For Life Membership,” or, “I am going to go for a walk,” or, “I am going to do a cycle ride.”
Something like that. Simple. Not complex. Something you can do with very little physical prep or mental effort and you can wrap it up in under 30 minutes.
Once your plan is in place, move on to Step 3.
3. Do–Now it is time to take action. You’ve made the decision and you have your plan. It is time to move forward and get it done.
Don’t delay. Don’t stall. Don’t look for the one more thing to take care of before you start.
Tell yourself, “If, after five minutes, I need to stop, I will stop…” and then start!
Because guess what… once you get those first five minutes out of the way, you will be in momentum and you will finish the rest of your workout with ease.
It’s kind of like when we take our kids to the park and they are feeling some type of way and not wanting to play. We convince them to just play for five minutes, and when our phone timer goes off, they always ask for another five. And then another.
As the summer schedule gets rolling, you can either let it run its course on your days and feel too overwhelmed and busy to exercise; or you can Decide, Plan, Do and make sure you consistently get your workouts in.
Every workout within the Exercise For Life Membership was built for times like this when schedules seem crazy and normalcy is out the window.
Just log into your Members Area, pick out a workout that you’d like to do, and 20 minutes later check it off your list knowing that you are bringing a higher version of yourself to the rest of your day.
