How do you make sure you get your workouts in consistently throughout the week?
For over a decade now, we have seen that when people schedule their workouts, their consistency with them long-term increases significantly.
But, did you know that there are two ways you can schedule your workouts to get this effect?
The first is called Time Scheduling and it is what most people think of when they hear,“schedule your workouts”.
It is saying, “At this time, on this date, I am going to do my workout.”
But sometimes this can feel like it doesn’t work for your schedule.
In fact, you may be looking at your schedule and not see any white space, so you think, “I guess I just don’t have time to workout today…”
Or, you might find that your day to day tasks and responsibilities fluctuate so much that it is extremely difficult to say in advance exactly what time you will workout.
That is where the second type of scheduling can come in, called Event Scheduling.
Event Scheduling is when you say “after ______ , I will workout.”
For example, we have been in a routine lately of “After our kids go to bed, we will walk laps around our court for 30 minutes.”
Some nights that happens at 7:00 PM. Other nights it might not be until 7:45 or 8:00. But because we have it Event Scheduled, we know that after the event of getting the kids down, we will go for our walk, regardless of the specific time.
It can also work with a “before” event, too.
For example, you can say, “Before I watch TV in the evening, I am going to do a Core & Cardio workout.”
You may not know exactly when you are going to be ready to watch your shows, but you know that before you do, you are going to get a workout in from the Exercise For Life Membership.
So, if you are finding it challenging to get your workouts in consistently, the number one thing you can do is to schedule them. But, scheduling does not mean it has to be done at a specific time; it can also be scheduled before or after a specific event.
If you implement this one tip over the next week, we are certain you will be able to exercise more consistently. But, if you aren’t sure exactly what you should do when you workout, we invite you to get started with the Exercise For Life Membership.
