How Wide Should Your Feet Be When Doing The Leg Press?

This month on Trainer Tip Tuesday we will be discussing how to properly use the leg press machine and make sure you are being safe and effective while doing so. The leg press machine is one of the most effective tools for building the strength and function of your leg muscles, but you need to make sure that it is being used correctly in order to minimize potential risks. Today, we want to talk to you about how wide you should be placing your feet when you do the leg press.

How wide you place your feet during this exercise will have a large influence over your “foldability”, i.e. how much your knees and hips can bend. Your feet width is especially important to consider if the leg press you are using does not have many adjustable options, such as being able to recline or being able to move the seat forward or back.

Understanding how wide to place your feet can dramatically change your experience using the leg press. If you find this exercise to be uncomfortable or the motion to be too stressful on your body, consider changing how wide your feet are placed. A slight tweak can make all the difference!

Check out all of the details in this week’s episode of Trainer Tip Tuesday, and be sure to tune back in next week as we discuss more considerations when using the leg press machine.
