This month on Trainer Tip Tuesday we will be discussing how to properly use the trunk flexion (a.k.a. crunch) machine and make sure you are being safe and effective while doing so. The crunch machine can be an extremely effective tool for building the strength and function of your abdominal muscles, but you need to make sure that it is being used correctly in order to minimize potential risks. Today, we want to talk to you about what to think about when you are doing this exercise in order to make it more specific to your abs.
Most people using the crunch machine use their arms to pull on the machine instead of putting their focus on the muscles they are trying to work, i.e. their abs. Not only does this make the exercise less effective, but it can also make you more vulnerable to injuring yourself while you are doing the exercise!
We have some considerations we recommend you taking if you are wanting to use a crunch machine, as well as some ways to troubleshoot potential issues that may come up when doing this exercise.
Check out all of the details in this week’s episode of Trainer Tip Tuesday, and be sure to tune back in next week as we discuss another consideration when using the crunch machine.
