Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are 70+. What things do you need to keep in mind with your exercise to make sure the health, strength, and function of your body stay at an all-time high as you journey through your 70’s?
1) Get In Gym Time
Exercise Tip Number One If You Are 70+ – One of the biggest anti-aging mechanisms you can take advantage of is to keep your body moving, staying active, and doing your resistance training. Often times, our clients who are in their 70’s are pretty active throughout the day in terms of walking and moving around their house, but they often leave out gym time. Make sure you find a local gym where you feel comfortable and prioritize going.
Action Step: What kind of environment do you feel comfortable exercising in? Is it a big box gym? A private studio? Whatever it is for you, make sure to prioritize going to the gym so you can get some Special Event exercise in.

2) Do Resistance Training
Exercise Tip Number Two If You Are 70+ – When you go to the gym, utilize the weight lifting machines to do resistance training. A lot of people may go to the gym to hop on the treadmill or the elliptical, and that is fine and well, but make sure you are keeping your strength up and your muscle function high by hitting the weights.

3) Do Cardio 2 Days/Week
Exercise Tip Number Three If You Are 70+ – On top of going to the gym and doing resistance training, make sure you are doing at least 2 days per week of cardio exercise. This is activity, other than general activity or walking, during which your heart rate gets up. You want to check with your doctor before you do this, but you want to be making time to get your heart rate up so your heart can stay as healthy as possible.
