Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who may be feeling the weight of your New Year’s Resolutions. You may be struggling to keep up with your New Year’s Resolutions. Especially when it comes to exercise and fitness, how can you make sure to stick with your New Year’s Resolutions this time of year?
1) Schedule Your Workouts With Someone Else
Tip number one – make sure your workouts are scheduled, not only with yourself, but with someone else. Maybe it’s with a personal trainer, maybe it is a group fitness class, or maybe you schedule with a friend or workout partner. We know that everything is probably against you right now. You’ve been working out. You are tired of working out. It is cold outside. You want to stay bundled up inside. So, make sure your workouts are scheduled with someone else so you are held accountable.
Action Step: Ask your coworkers if anybody would like to go to the gym with you. Even if you aren’t working out together, meeting somebody there and then doing your own thing can be enough accountability to keep you going.

2) If You’ve Stopped Exercising, Start Up Again!
Tip number two – remember, exercise is a lifelong process, so if you’ve missed a week or two, don’t get down on yourself. Get back on the ball and start exercising again. You will reap the health benefits of exercise, but you have to do it consistently.
Action Step: Don’t wait until next week Monday to get going – start today! Walk for 20 minutes over your lunch break. Stop into your gym for a 30 minute workout after work. Check the class schedule for a group class you can attend tomorrow morning – and make sure to go! Building in the habit of exercise into your daily schedule is NOT easy, but it IS worth it!

3) Seek Help When You Need It
Tip number three – seek help when you need it. This is the time of year when people are going to stop going to the gym, and usually it is for a couple reasons. Sometimes it’s a scheduling issue, sometimes their body feels achy and not great, or sometimes it’s because they aren’t see the results they had hoped to see. This is a great time, not to give up on your goals, but to take the next step. Find a professional in your area or somebody that is experienced in helping you with your goals so you are able to achieve success.
Action Step: Your gym likely has certified personal trainers who can help you reach your exercise and fitness goals. If you are interested in our recommendation for the top-qualified professionals in your area, you can see a list of them here.
