Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are trying to fight the crowds after New Year’s. Everybody wants to get to the gym because it is part of their New Years Resolution, but how can you still get a good workout in despite the crowds?
1) Have A Plan
Tip number one – have a plan. Know exactly which exercises you need to get done, how long it is going to take you, and how many reps you should be doing. You need to have a very specific plan so when you are in the gym all of the other people in there after New Year’s aren’t dictating what you are and aren’t doing.
Action Step: Take 10-15 minutes before you head to the gym to write down exactly what you want to do when you are there. Make sure to bring that paper with you so you can hold yourself accountable to it.

2) Don’t Do Circuit Workouts
Tip number two – put the circuits on the back burner for the time being. When there are not many people in the gym, you can go from machine to machine and cycle around no problem. But, with the New Year’s crowds, you will have to guard your spot. So, if you are going to use the chest press machine, for example, make sure to finish all of your sets before moving on to the next piece of equipment.
Action Step: Be strategic when you are planning your workouts. Stay on one piece of equipment or in one area of the gym until you are done using it before you move on to the next area.

3) Take Advantage of New Years Training Deals
Tip number three – take advantage of opportunities to get exercise instruction at your gym or at a local personal training studio. A lot of times when New Year’s comes around, personal trainers know what is a common resolution — getting back into the swing of exercise. There can be really nice specials this time of year, so it can be a great opportunity for you to get some quality instruction.
