Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are unsure if you may be a candidate for Muscle Activation Techniques®. How do you know if MAT® will be right for your body?
1) You Feel Localized Tightness
The first indicator to know if you may be a good fit for MAT® is if you feel some localized tightness on a regular basis. For example, you may feel that the muscles around your hip or shoulder are particularly tight. These are examples of localized tightness and are a good indicator that you are a candidate for MAT®.
Action Step: Do a mental scan throughout your body and see if any areas feel particularly tight. Do this not only while you are at rest, but while you are being active, as well.

2) Your Right Side Moves Differently Than Your Left
Reason number two why you may be a great candidate for MAT® is if you notice that the right side of your body moves differently than the left side of your body. For example, you may be able to lift your left arm all of the way up over your head, but you can only reach your right arm part of the way up. This difference between your right and your left side is an indicator that you may be a great candidate for MAT®.
Action Step: Gently move your arms and legs around into different positions and see if you seem to move differently on one side than you do on the other.

3) Movement Is Easier On One Side Than The Other
Reason number three why you may be a great candidate for MAT® is if your movement is easier on one side of your body than on the other. For example, when you are lifting weights, does it feel easier to lift the weight with your right arm or your left arm? Or, when you are running, does your left leg feel as strong as your right leg? These differences in how your muscles feel while you are moving are an indication that you may be a great fit for MAT®.
Action Step: When you are being active, pay attention to how your body is feeling. Is your output different on one side versus the other? Can you feel the exercise better on one side versus the other?
If you are experiencing any of these issues, you may be a great candidate for MAT®. Make sure to connect with your local MAT® practitioner here so you can keep your body tuned up and working well.
