Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are bringing you one exercise topic, talking about it for two minutes, and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. This week we are talking to those of you who don’t like the gym. How can you workout? How can you still exercise, even if you don’t like the gym?
1) Consider Working With A Personal Trainer
We all know it is extremely important to stay active if we want to live the healthiest life that we can. Our first tip is to consider working with a personal trainer. Personal trainers are trained at understanding exercise and they are there to help you choose the forms of exercise that are going to be the most time efficient and have the greatest positive impact on your health, especially if you don’t like the gym.
Action Step: Here is the list of who we believe to be some of the most qualified personal trainers across the globe. If you find a personal trainer who is on this list, as well as on one of these two (MAT™ Specialists; MAT™ Jumpstart), you can rest assured that you will be getting one of the best exercise experiences possible. The good news? Many of these individuals work in boutique fitness settings and not the traditional gym setting!
2) Consider Finding A Workout Buddy
Tip number two – consider finding a workout buddy. Find somebody to exercise with who can push you and hold you accountable, even if it is not a personal trainer, but who still wants to work out and be there with you. Having a friend or workout partner to exercise with can help to keep you motivated to work out on a regular basis.
Action Step: Who do you know that would like to work out but doesn’t like the gym? Make a list of three to five people who you can meet up with a few times a week to participate in various forms of physical activity. MeetUp.com can be a great resource for finding individuals who want to workout together outside of the gym.
3) Explore Non-Traditional Options To Get In Physical Activity
Our third tip if you don’t like going to the gym is to explore non-traditional options to get in physical activity throughout your day. It is absolutely not an option to not workout — you have to find a way to exercise on a regular basis. Perhaps yo can find a park you like to walk or biking trails you would enjoy exploring. Anything to get yourself moving is valuable.
Action Step: Activities such as walking laps around your office, walking around the mall during your lunch break or after work, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator are all easy and convenient ways to get in physical activity on a regular basis. Remember, exercising doesn’t always have to be a “special event”. Getting up and performing light physical activity throughout the day can be tremendously beneficial!
