Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are choosing one exercise topic, talking about it for two minutes, and giving you three bullet-point reasons why you should follow our advice. This week we are giving you three reasons why moving throughout your day is a must. Why you need to get up from your desk and walk around. Why standing up out of your chair and going to get water, or parking farther from your office so you have to walk farther from your car into the building absolutely must happen throughout your day. As personal trainers in Schaumburg, this topic is a big one for us.
Our first reason is that moving throughout your day at a low intensity helps prevent disease. Specifically, low intesity activity throughout your day every day will help to prevent insulin resistance, and insulin resistance leads to Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease.
Second, getting up and moving throughout your day will help to increase your productivity. Have you ever heard of the Pomodoro Technique, where you are working for 25 minutes and then you take a five-minute break? In fact, getting up every 25 minutes to move for five will not only help to improve your productivity but will also help to decrease insulin resistance. Decreasing your insulin resistance, as stated in Point 1, will help to decrease your risk for Type 2 Diabetes and developing heart disease.
Point number three is that moving throughout your day will help you with your mood. When you are getting up from your desk, you’re moving around, getting some steps in, getting your heart rate up, getting some blood flowing–that’s all going to help make you feel more prepared and ready for your day.
